Samuel Taylor
At 9:00 p.m. a nurse came to get Tim & Lisa and said Sam was not waking up yet. If he did not wake within the hour, they would take him for a CT scan to check on the swelling. Tim & Lisa were able to finally go back and see Sam.
At 11:20 p.m., I spoke with Tim and he advised Sam was still not waking up. They had taken him for a CT scan and it revealed there is still significant swelling and some fluid buildup in the brain. They were going to reintubate him and put in a drain to relieve the fluid. They were also going to keep him sedated so his brain could rest.
This is not exactly routine and while the doctors are cautious, they are apparently not overly concerned at this point. They do see this after surgeries of this nature and know how to proceed in Sam's best interest.
At this time, please continue to send prayers flying to heaven. Tim and Lisa, as expected, are extremely concerned, overwhelmed and tired but have held up amazingly well throughout this ordeal. They are a pillar of strength for both Sam and their other children.
As soon as I hear an update today, I will pass it along. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers, there is still a long road ahead of them.
So it's been a roller coaster of a day for Sam and our family.
As the earlier entry described, Sam needed a second surgery where the neurosurgeon removed a portion of Sam's lower skull to allow the brain to expand, relieving pressure and allowing his brain to heal. The surgeon described Sam cerebellum as "angry and bruised" from the first surgery.
Today's surgery was a success as Sam has been resting comfortably all day. His vital signs are all normal and the pressure in his skull is now within normal limits.
He has not woken up yet! But with time, healing and God's grace we hope to see him smile and hear his voice soon.
Please keep your prayers and positive thoughts coming Sam's way and know they are making a huge impact.
Lisa and I thank all of you for your comments on this blog, the prayers you send, all the food at our house and other cards and gifts you have given us these past few days.
Although this is a very difficult time for all of us, it is gratifying to know that we have so many friends and family who are rallying around us as we all wait for Sam to get well.
